WE DID IT!!!
Thanks for all of your support, images of our pain and suffering will follow soon!
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Andy Ripley OBE was a giant of a man in every sense…..Physically imposing, Family man, Corinthian, Businessman and legendary sportsman. He played rugby for England and British Lions and was a world class rower, still holding the indoor rowing record for 2000m for his age group 50 to 60. The time he set was 6 mins and 6 seconds, which is a fantastic time for any age group!!!
Andy was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in his late 50’s and finally succumbed to the disease in 2010 aged 62. During this time he tried to maintain all of the facets of his life…family, business and sport….I urge you to read his inspiring book ‘The rugby icon’s ultimate victory over Cancer’
Given that one of Andy’s passions was rowing, there seems no better way to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Charity than by setting a group of rowers a fairly stiff challenge. We have gathered a team of rowers together who will each set out to row a marathon (26 miles). Each rower will aim to raise £500 for the charity and we have around 20 to 25 rowers committed to the challenge, which will take place on the 20th November 2011.
Given that the testing of Prostate Cancer in the UK is largely ignored amongst men we hope to 1) raise awareness of the need for guys to get tested and 2) raise over £10,000 for the Prostate Cancer Charity.
Please give generously..your donations are greatly appreciated by the Prostate Cancer Charity.
