Story
We are raising money for Myton Hospice in memory of my uncle Roy, who passed away there on July 21st 2018. He was taken care of by the fantastic staff, nurses and doctors of the Coventry Myton Hospice.
Myton Hospice have been an incredible source of support during the last weeks of Roy’s life and we would have been lost without them. Roy was diagnosed with Tonsil cancer in 2015, after gruelling treatment, he believed that the worst was behind him. In April 2018 we were all shocked and devastated to discover that his cancer had spread and was now terminal. The aggressive nature of his cancer has meant that we had little time to gather our thoughts.
Roy never let his hardship affect his good spirits, his optimism, his love of life and his sense of humour. Roy would chat to everyone at Myton, always interested in their day. He continued to surprise all the nurses, whether it doing Yoga in his room, press ups in the garden, his tales of adventure or his sheer determination and courage. He was once even asked if he had signed in by the reception, to his reply ‘I am a patient here, do I need to sign in?’ with a smile.
Myton is close to our hearts and is a very special place, it was a huge relief to know that he was surrounded by nurses and doctors who genuinely cared. They have made a massive difference during this difficult time. Your donation will help other individuals and their family members with the care and support they need during a difficult period in their life. Roy appreciated all the help he was given and it was his wish to give back.
Myton are a charity, and rely heavily on donations to provide the extra time and thought for the terminally ill, support that they can't receive at a hospital. Please donate whatever you can in remembrance of Roy, and so they can continue their great work. It costs just over £1000 for the nursing and care of just one patient for just one day, Myton need £9.6 million each year to run all three of their hospices free of charge to families like mine. We have set an initial target of £1500 but hope to raise more.
We all miss him greatly, and we know that his spirit will live on in our hearts and our stories.
Thank you for supporting and absolutely any donations made will be thanked with deep gratitude.
