Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and to everyone who has so very generously supported the cause ! In addition to just giving we have raised a further £950 through CAF cheques.

By Jack Francklin
A couple of weeks on after climbing to the summit, we still think about the trials and challenges we faced in getting up My Kilimanjaro. We didn't just cope with Rupert for a full week, with the usual rocks in the bags and the usual... the altitude and the physical demands of the climb certainly took its toll! Its fair to say we all can't quite believe we made it up to the top in one piece despite the seemingly soft reputation of the climb!
I would love to say a massive thank you, from both Rupert and I for everyone who so generously donated to the cause.
I was certainly driven to make sure all the money donated was not in vain. And also, of course, with the thought that Andrew, Edward, and my sister Katie were protecting us as we walked up. I was certainly emotional when we arrived at uhuru (the summit). It shows you can do something if you really believe in yourself.
It was a great team effort, including all of you who donated, and it will live forever in the memory. Particularly good to have the forest flag up there...
Thanks again,
Jack.

I stumbled up Kilimanjaro( thank God its all over) with my Nephew Jack Francklin in memory of my Twin brothers Edward and Andrew for The James Wentworth-Stanley memorial fund. The going got tough so the tough got going ! It took us six hours to reach the summit, from base camp. None of us were in a good state on arrival and had it not been for the Diamox tablets we would not have made it. Altitude sickness is something else and even one of our guides suffered. The zombie shuffle, we perfected boy did we tick that box. The celebrations only properly started when we dropped 6000 feet as our bodies were screaming out NO MORE ! Hats off to the Canadian couple who we saw running down or the world record holder who ran up and down in 7 hours !! It took us six days with the exceptional Pristine tour company 13 porters and two guides for three of us !!!!! A ONCE in a life time experience highly recommended ,not for the faint hearted !!

Both my brothers died after a long hard fought battle against depression. Suicide is one of the greatest causes of death amongst young adults. One in four young adults suffer from some form of diagnosable mental illness.

If we can raise awareness and reduce the number of suicides then our trip will be complete.
