Celebrating Ollie’s Life

Losing a beloved four footed family member is painful beyond words. Like many others of you reading this bio , you can relate to the pain and the emptiness I felt and still feel on a daily basis, when I lost my Cocker Spaniel - Ollie.  I realised I had to turn this pain into a positive ( if that’s possible) and celebrate his life and all the love he brought to it.

I set myself the challenge , a diversion  to cope with the transition of a life without Ollie. I decided to do something to help other dogs 🐶 and give something back to “four footed friends .”  So I am taking part in the Sandringham 5k.  🏃‍♀️ On Sunday19th June 2022.  I am doing this as a sponsored run to raise money for Cocker and English Springer Spaniel Rescue.

This is a massive challenge for me as I have not run since I was at school, that’s 35 plus years ago. I am having to learn to run and train  hard. which helps fill the “Ollie gaps.”

So as I said before my drive for the run is to celebrate Ollie’s life.  Aka- Olly Baby Boo  and raise funds . We, my family and I said farewell  🌈 to Ollie in September 2021 after eleven and a half wonderful happy enriched years).  To say Ollie was special is an understatement. Ollie was my best friend, my soul mate,my companion, my shadow, my world, my everything. (Husbands you know you are below the children and the dog in the pecking order)

He was the timekeeper ⏰ we did not need a watch we were governed by him telling us it was elevenses,  ☕️ lunch, dinner, and walkies.

He was a vocal little man and spoke to us continuously he understood every word, you could tell him to go and get at drink and off he would wander to his water bowl, he wee’d on demand – a creature of habit. He knew he was loved. He liked everyone to be home and the door locked  🚪 🔐  then he could rest easy. Until that time he would lay on the arm of the chair with one eye 👁 on the door. He loved his cuddles and was happiest snuggled up on family members knees snoring with contentment knowing that they were unable to move.

The grief has been overwhelming. There is a hole in my heart  💔  a numbness running through my veins, that empty space that homed his basket, that empty eeriness in the house, that shadow that was always present wherever you went is,  “No More.”

We were privileged to have him as part of our family. He will always play a role in our lives and the paw prints 🐾 he has left on our hearts ♥️ will remain forever, along with the fun and laughter he brought to our lives.

If love alone could have kept him here, he would have lived forever. My healing process is to celebrate his life and all that he gave us as a family, hence the sponsored run to raise funds for CAESSR, to give other Spaniels a chance to a enriched life with a loving family that was natural for Ollie.
