Dear Friends and Family,

Eyesight is something that we all take for granted everyday. Where would you be without it?? Could you work, maintain your independence or even study? The thought of being unable to see properly can seem quite scary but for too many people it is a reality.

I first went to Africa with Vision Aid Overseas in 2009. We saw 4500 patients in 2 weeks and all of them needed glasses. However, in these developing countries a pair of specs can mean the difference between survival or hardship.

Children who are desperate to study but can't see the board; tailors who can't see their stitches and therefore cannot work to support families. For many people, a simple pair of spectacles can give them their independence.

As many people as we help with spectacles there are just as many who unfortunately cannot be helped. Simple infections go untreated because of poor healthcare and can result in sight threatening conditions.

And that is why I keep going back to Africa. I have been 4 times in the last 4 years and next March I have been given the opportunity to go back again.

On our next project we will be a team of 4 going out to remote parts of Zambia and testing as many patients as possible in order to give them spectacles where neccessary and refer those for further treatment where we can.
