Story

A goal of a few young gentlemen in the Corps of the Royal Engineers: John Matthews, Levi Cooper, Chris Turney and Jack Dudley, the summit of three of Britain's largest peaks within a 24-hour time limit has yet to be accomplished.

The 3 Peak Challenge is one that is relatively well-recognised, however with over 3,000 metres of climbing and the strict time constraints on the challenge often deter those who would otherwise like to take the challenge on.

The challenge is based on a successful summit of Scotland's Ben Nevis (1,344m), England's Scafell Pike in the Lake District (978m) and Wales' Mount Snowdon (1,085m). These must all be completed within 24-hours; from the bottom of the ascent of Ben Nevis to the bottom of the descent of Mount Snowdon. The challenge brings a total walking distance of 26 miles, with over 6,000m of actual ascent and descent.

So here's the rub; the clock keeps ticking while we travel from one peak to the next, making hasty climbing essential due to traffic and road speed restrictions.

To make the challenge slightly more difficult we shall be doing the challenge with 30lbs of weight each (excluding water and food weight) inside military bergens.

We shall be attempting this challenge in order to raise funds for a charity which helps provide assistance to underprivileged children. 'Hope for Children' assists in the caring and wellbeing for children here in the UK and in many countries across Asia and Africa. Aiding in the development of children's education, livelihood, health and their rights, 'Hope for Children' works tirelessly to turn around the fortunes of those less privileged than many of us around the world. Please feel free to read more into this great charity and all they do in the link below:

And there you have it! After several discussions, it was decided that an attempt to do this challenge was to be undertaken! On Friday 5th of June, we shall set off on our quest.
