We provide an advanced trauma team to seriously injured people in London

Story

As many of you will be aware, in February this year, Sarah’s partner James was involved in a serious cycling accident in central London. Unconscious, he was stabilised and given life saving treatment at the scene by the London’s Air Ambulance Advanced Trauma Team before being transported to The Royal London Hospital where he immediately underwent major brain surgery.

James is well on his journey to recovery, however without the immediate care of London’s Air Ambulance Team (and the subsequent care of the surgeons and team at The Royal London) his journey may have ended there.

London’s Air Ambulance treats on average 5 seriously injured patients a day in the “golden hour” following their injury by quickly delivering an advanced trauma team to the scene who can deliver support otherwise only available in the emergency room.

London’s Air Ambulance is entirely funded by charitable donations and it costs approximately £10m a year to continue to provide this valuable service. The average cost of one Air Ambulance mission is £1,700.

For this reason, Sarah and her identical twin sister Julie are putting aside their life long fear of heights and on 15 September will abseil from London’s Air Ambulance helipad the 17 floors (that’s 305 feet) down the side of The Royal London Hospital to raise money for this worthy cause.

We aim to raise £10,000.

Headway is a charity that provides information, support and services to brain injury survivors and their families. The Headway Emergency Fund provides grants of up to £500 in the immediate aftermath of a brain injury to help families not so fortunate as Sarah’s facing an increased financial burden as they start to cope with the practical implications of traumatic brain injury. Sarah will personally match £ for £ all funds raised for the Air Ambulance and make this donation to the Headway branch located at the Royal London Hospital.

On behalf of James, Sarah, daughter Sasha and our family, we thank you for your generous support.
