Story
The Southampton Diabetic Eye Screening Programme runs retinopathy screening clinics in Southampton, West Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight.
We provide this service to people with diabetes, to establish and monitor their levels of diabetic retinopathy, and to enable timely intervention and treatment where necessary, helping to prevent blindness as a result of diabetes.
Currently, 10% of the NHS budget is spent on diabetes and complications thereof. Previously, diabetic retinopathy was the leading cause of blindness amongst working age people in the UK. It has been proven that retinal screening has already lessened the impact of diabetes, and retinopathy is no longer the leading cause of blindness.
We are determined to continue the excellent progress made, both in terms of saving sight and minimising the need for NHS expenditure to support those affected.
Working in partnership with Southampton Hospital Charity is a way to raise a little extra finance, in order to raise the bar on our provision. With your support, we would love to take our service from 'great' to 'outstanding'.
We are very grateful for your interest in our service, and for any donations. If you have diabetes, don't forget to book your free annual screening check when you receive our reminder letter.
