Rife
Campaign by Watershed Arts Trust Ltd (RCN 284188)
Supporting Rife will help Watershed to keep amplifying the ideas and stories of more young people from across Bristol and beyond. We're passionate about connecting them to networks and opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have access to.

Story

Young people are sick of being talked about instead of talked to - Rife unleashes their voices, so I am staying quiet to amplify theirs.

From 9pm on 22 July, I will remain silent for 24 hours - handing over my meetings, my social media and Bristol’s annual culture drinks to Rifers. We want you to listen to what they have to say - whilst I take the role of silent witness…

Please help me out with sponsorship for Rife and the young creatives we support so we can continue to properly hear them.

My mum says:  "Clare was not a quiet child and has never been reticent in sharing her opinions, so this is going to be a real challenge…  but we reckon she’ll do it for Rife..." Angela Reddington

About Rife

Rife magazine was created in 2014 by Watershed and young people who felt marginalised by how they were represented in the media and limited by the opportunities available to the them.  We offer paid internships and publish work by young writers, photographers, illustrators, and filmmakers from all sorts of backgrounds, helping them get into creative careers. Last year Rife reached over 200,000 people.

To coincide with the launch of Rife's first book, this summer we are raising money to support this vital part of Watershed's work.  It is a cause I feel very passionately about - I have learnt so much from working alongside the Rife team and they shape every part of what Watershed means today.

70% of our paid young content creators roles are from a BAME background and 60% of our roles were filled by non-graduates- ‘A stark contrast to your usual newsroom’ – Sammy Jones, Rife Editor. Rife alumni have gone on to work at companies such as Icon Films, BBC, BFI, BBC, Radio 1extra, Facebook, Guardian, Bristol 24/7, Crack Magazine, Rising Arts Agency or set up as creative freelancers. They are all in employment.
