Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

With Jo running a bike shop and me thinking i'm a 'keen' cyclist, we thought it were about time to put these 'skills' to good use. Me, Jo and our friend Bonny have decided to take on the biggest cycling challenge of our lives! We have signed up to cycle from London to Paris over just 4 days this September - to me that seems like quite a lot of cycling, plus an extremely sore bottom!!

Over these 4 days we will clock up just under 300 miles, conker some almighty hills and enjoy a croissant or two (I hope!). However, it's not all about having fun, we are doing it for a reason!

Working for Dorset Blind Association I get to see first hand how important our services are to visually impaired people across the county and why it is so important for people to get out and fundraise!

Being a small charity that receives no government support, our job as fundraisers is never easy - this is why we are doing our bit and hope to encourage more people to take on a challenge like this!

I meet people that just want the world to end when they are diagnosed with a sight loss. We give them all the emotional and practical support we can to help them make steps towards a brighter future. Our Support Workers spend time one to one or in peer support groups showing people that they can lead a fruitful life, they just need to go about it a different way. I know many of our members are now married, have kids or are in employment purely because we helped to get them to a better place. It's not all about white canes and Guide dogs - sight loss also means deep periods of depression and feelings of no longer being able to do what they used to. Please help us to help more people in Dorset to find new ways of living a fulfilling and happy life.

We will be out on our bikes training nearly everday from now on, and holding a variation of fundraising events to help us reach our huge target!! Please support us and give us all the encouragement we need to achieve this challenge, and to get us out on our bikes even in the pouring rain!

THANK YOU!
