Early this year the three of us trekked for three weeks in Nepal with the Himalayan trust in the Kanchenjunga region. The Himalayan Trust UK are working to boost the livelihoods of this area and promoting quality education in Taplejung with teacher training. Whilst walking through the extreme rural areas in the high altitudes it really showed how help is needed and without the help of the Himalayan Trust the Nepali Government aren’t doing enough to those who really need it. A new initiative is working on helping women and girls with menstruation. The three of us are funding a project to help with the Menstruation Pad support. In this area girls face numerous difficulties during their menstrual cycle and currently there is no specific policy to resolve this issue.; 

• Women/Girls can’t afford pads and are therefore using dirty cloths leading to communicable diseases. 
• Not being able to use the pads because it’s too shameful/there’s no available space due to lack of toilets and lack of privacy. 
• No rubbish bins/hand wash leading to girls being embarrassed and not wanting to use them this also leads to girls not attending school due to these inadequate services. 
• Lack of education about how to manage their menstrual cycle and the importance of hygiene. 
• Cultural reasons as during their periods women and girls are said to be punished by God if they enter the home during menstruation, therefore with the current use of Menstrual huts in Nepal and with women’s periods being a taboo topic these issues need to be acknowledged. 

Therefore with your help we can educate around 200 girls about their menstrual cycle, increase school attendance during their period and distribute pads to these young girls.
