Story
Inspired by Captain Tom Moore, the Smiths at Number 60 have decided to run 60 km in six days for Toffo’s (early) 60th birthday to raise money for Turn2us. We will start our running on Saturday 25th April and finish on Thursday 30th.
We don’t expect to raise the same phenomenal amount as Captain Tom Moore, but would be thrilled to raise what we can for Turn2Us. They are a national charity providing practical help to people who are struggling financially. In light of coronavirus, many are struggling not only with health problems but also with day-to-day difficulties
Meet the team:
Michael (Toffo/Daddy):
He may be a gym bunny but he’s only recently rediscovered running since his gym has closed.
Strengths: Stylish gym wear and great determination.
Weaknesses: Short strides, and his love for cigarettes.
Fiona (Fanny/Mummy):
Unfortunately she cannot run due to arthritis but she’s going to be our support cyclist.
Strengths: She’s got a bike with a basket and she’s our cheerleader.
Weaknesses: Arthritis, and her love for cigarettes.
Chloe:
Our PR specialist. She will be in charge of social media and making sure we get nice cold glasses of water when we finish.
Strengths: She’s pretty much an influencer, minus the thousands of followers, and she pours a great glass of the cold stuff.
Weaknesses: Not a runner and she has too much work to do preventing her from becoming a cheerleader.
Dominic:
Having said that he will never run further than 10km, this is quite a big ask.
Strengths: Good runner and his shaved head keeps him cool and aerodynamic.
Weaknesses: Requires the runs to be in the afternoon due to work commitments, and his love for cigarettes.
Eliza:
Despite being over the pond she will be representing the team in the US.
Strengths: The ‘exotic’ factor and her selection of different Sharprio walking partners.
Weaknesses: Not a runner and asthmatic.
Thea:
With all her marathon training you would have thought she would be up for this, but after a bad Achilles, a lot of booze and cigarettes, and a dose of the mumps, she's been heavily set back.
Strengths: Been training since October and is determined to make her Strava look good.
Weaknesses: Too pushy on the family to be better athletes, and her love of cigarettes.
We’re not the biggest or best you’ve ever seen, but we will sure run hard (and at an average to slow pace) to complete this challenge... and it really will be a challenge!
We would be thrilled with any donations, big or small, so please consider following the link to donate.
Lots of love during these weird and worrying times,
The Smiths
