The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year, after which the days begin to shorter and the nights begin to lengthen. Those who spend each night sleeping on the street are facing into cooler nights and colder months ahead. 

That's why, this year, we decided to mark an ancient tradition of the land and of our ancestors, by gathering together as a community and taking time to support our most vulnerable members. We will be sleeping out to raise essential funds for the Journey Home Fund, created and led by the Galway Simon Community, responsibly for Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.

The Simon Community receive funding to build a certain amount of houses each year, however this funding does not stretch to interior requirements. Thus, the Journey Home Fund was created to provide the necessary furnishings and indoor facilities to create a comfortable living environment and to give those who need it most a fresh start in life. 

As the days shorten, we light a torch of hope, symbolised by the lighting of the community fire at sunrise on the 22nd, for a community where needs are met and shelter is always provided. Where those who are in a position of privilege, offer a helping hand to those who need it. A community where there is always a seat around the fire for each and everyone of us.
