Story

Thanks for visiting our JustGiving page, where your donation will contribute to our research into gene and stem cell therapies for severe sight loss.

The Gene and Cell Therapy Group at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology have been at the forefront of gene and cell therapy research for over 15 years. Our research focuses on improving understanding of a number of retinal diseases and the development of new strategies and techniques to tackle retinal degeneration. You can find out more on our website.

In the last few years our work has lead to the development of a number of clinical trial programmes. We are currently engaged in the worlds first gene therapy trial for childhood blindness caused by a condition called Leber Congenital Amaurosis and we are also conducting Europe's first phase I safety trial to assess whether stems cells could be used to repair macular damage in people with Stargardt disease.

Your generous donation will help us in our goal to expand the range of retinal diseases that can currently be treated and to bring more novel gene and cell therapies to the clinic in the future.

Just £5 would allow us to buy primers that we can use to analyse DNA
Between £10 - £500 would allow us to buy laboratory reagents
Between £500 - £1000 can be put towards small pieces of day-to-day research equipment such as pipettes and centrifuges
Donations of £1000 or more can help us invest in new research as well as upgraded our current research facilities

However, large or small, you donation will go a long way towards helping us fulfil these goals.

Should you wish to discuss your donation, or set up regular monthly payments to support our work, please email eye.info@ucl.ac.uk or call 0207 608 7982.
