Story
Newcastle United Foundation
have achieved their 10th year as a registered charity in the north
east. They reach 54,000 disadvantaged children, young people and their
families a year in the region.
The Foundation deliver a range
of football, health, education and youth programs in schools and community
venues, employing 65 coaching and education staff.
The mission of the Foundation is:
To promote active and healthy lifestyles, particularly in disadvantaged communities.
To inspire children to learn and help young people reach their potential.
To engage young people in constructive activities that build safe, strong communities.
The challenges facing our region when we launched
in 2008 are still prominent today including:
High levels of poor health
Low educational attainment
Above average youth unemployment (1 in 5, 18-24 years olds)
Child poverty - 1 in 4 (compared to UK average 1 in 5)
While the Foundation does not claim to be
able to solve all of these issues, they are in a unique position to be able to
use sport and the NUFC brand to engage, motivate and inspire people to achieve
their potential.
