We feed orphans in Malawi to improve their survival rates

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I have extended the page to take in the Aviemore Half marathon in October 2009 and the Chris Hoy 1/2 Marathon in April 2010. I hope you decide to make a donation to FROM Scotland.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Famine Relief for Orphans in Malawi gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
The main aim of FROM Scotland is: "to provide food for orphans and other vulnerable children but also to supply the other items which help to improve their quality of life"

Dr Tracy Morse (Thomson) born and brought up near Inverurie and attended SSC through high school and as a volunteer leader. For the last 8 years Tracy has lived and worked in Malawi. Through her work in the south of the country thousands of children have benefitted (i.e. survived to school age) from projects that Tracy has developed over the years.

In Malawi 1 out of 5 children die before school age and 1 in 12 of the population is an orphan. Tracy's family and friends in decided to try to help by raising money to buy food during the famine of 2005. F.R.O.M Scotland was formed in Sept 2005 and received Charity status in March 2007.

So far FROM Scotland have:

>   Provided money to give 400 orphans / vulnerable children one meal every day.

>   Supplied water treatment tablets to many families; Rocket stoves to feeding stations to help preserve wood supplies; Starter packs of maize, beans and fertilizer to help families become self sufficient; Bicycles to allow health workers to travel between villages and sanitation platforms to improve hygiene in the villages.

>   Replaced a Birthing Unit at Sekeni village which was destroyed in the rainy season. The total cost of this was £5000 including solar power.

>   Provided funds to build a clinic and a health workers house in Mwanayaya village which had no medical facilities.

>  Provided an installation service and training passed on medical equipment donated by various organisations in the Aberdeen area. University of Aberdeen. S.A.C., S.E.P.A. and A.R.I. Several oil companies have also donated equipment

To date FROM Scotland have raised over £100,000 through many generous donations - every penny of which has gone directly to the projects in with no administration costs.

I would like to thank everyone who donates to FROM Scotland either through Just Giving or directly and also to Edinburgh Marathon who donated my place on the Marathon. http://www.edinburgh-marathon.com ... I am sure that after 20 miles I will still be as grateful as i am now - thanks.

For those still reading, SSC will be 100 in 2012, hence the target of £2,012.

Please sponsor me now or before 31st May.
