I have signed up to a run (or brisk waddle) across London’s greatest landmarks on 13 July at the British 10K London Run, hopefully without the use of an oyster card. If I do not get some over tailored costume suggestions I might just agree to an ‘aspirational’ 50min time target!
The cause? I am fund raising for Karibuni Trust. Karibuni is Swahili for Welcome and the Trust raises awareness of the needs of children living in poverty, orphans and disadvantaged children living in both rural and urban slums in Kenya. It raises money to meet those needs by supporting projects working with the children and their carers, and providing education and funding for those starting up SMEs.
The fundraiser is returning the kindness I received from the works of charity for my own schooling, my secondary school funding having been sourced in most part by Save the Children Fund UK. Supporting the smaller charities that do similarly great work, at the foundation level and in less visible localities strikes a deep cord with me. Every penny is vital to ensure the continued educational support and programmes run in Kenya. I am targeting £500 to support 25 kids through primary school for a year. You can read more about Karibuni’s work here: http://www.karibuni.org.uk/
Many thanks
Steve
