Story
This is my digital shake of the charity pot!
With my longest training run now under my belt, it feels like the right time to start fundraising.
I'm running this marathon to raise money for two charities that helped me when I really needed them, SSAFA and Hospitality Action.
A few years ago now, I found myself in a bit of a pickle, a single mum to two little ones under three, and needing some short-term help to get back on my feet. What should have been a brief introduction to SSAFA (my father served in the forces) turned into a much longer, more compassionate conversation. Although I didn’t quite fall into their age bracket for direct support, the SSAFA representative took the time to really understand my situation.
They recommended I reach out to Hospitality Action, an organisation supporting people in an industry I’ve worked in on and off for years. SSAFA helped me through the forms and the process, which ultimately led to a small grant from Hospitality Action. That support helped me move forward when things felt stuck.
I’ll always be grateful for the kindness, time, and understanding they both showed me.
I don’t think many people are aware of just how much Hospitality Action does, whether you’re in the industry or not. So, with a little under three weeks to go, I’m lacing up my trainers and putting my heart, lungs, and legs to the test in this marathon as my way of saying thank you, all these years later.
If you can spare anything, please consider donating. Every step I take is with gratitude for the support I received, and for those who might need it next.
