A Challenge of Gratitude: Supporting Velindre Cancer Charity

I am undertaking this challenge as a profound act of gratitude and a personal commitment to give back to Velindre Cancer Centre, a place that has stood beside my family with unwavering support during the most trying chapter of our lives.

For those who may not know, my son has been courageously fighting cancer for nearly two years. He is now in remission, still undergoing regular follow-up treatment. Throughout this journey, Velindre has been more than just a hospital, it has been a source of strength, compassion, and hope. The incredible support I have received from my Velindre colleagues and the inspiring patients we care for has helped carry us through each difficult day.

Velindre colleagues and patients has a big part in my son's care and healing over in the Philippines, and now it is my heartfelt mission to give something back.

By supporting this fundraising initiative, you will be helping sustain the exceptional standard of care that Velindre provides. Your donations will directly contribute to funding 50% of Velindre’s Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs), the compassionate professionals at the heart of cancer care. These CNSs are vital in delivering holistic, patient-centred support, driving innovation, advancing education for both staff and patients, and coordinating care across multidisciplinary teams.

In addition, your generosity will empower important initiatives such as the Healthcare Cancer Research Fellowships, which give Velindre staff, especially those in roles not traditionally involved in research, the opportunity to explore transformative projects that enhance cancer treatment. Your support will also strengthen the Velindre Oncology Academy, which delivers specialist cancer education to healthcare professionals across Wales, helping to shape a skilled and empowered cancer care workforce for the future.

Velindre is known as the Hospital of Hope, and it truly lives up to that name. Its people, devoted, compassionate, and inspiring, are the very heart of that hope.
