Story
This year’s Four Paws Up For Cancer charity fundraising has been chosen by our wonderful trainer and much-loved Barking Mad family member, Laura.
In October 2025, at just 32 years old, Laura was diagnosed with breast cancer and her world was turned upside down. A full time teacher of children by day and dogs by night, Laura was always active and constantly on the go. Suddenly, she was forced to stop, slow down, and focus on the biggest fight of her life.
Laura has since undergone six rounds of intense chemotherapy, facing her fear of needles, losing her hair, and adapting to a completely new reality. In mid April 2026, she had a left breast mastectomy with full axillary (lymph mode) clearance and is now recovering at home. This is not the end of Laura’s journey — she is still waiting for results and clarity on what the next steps in her treatment and future will look like.
Throughout everything, Laura has shown incredible strength, resilience, and determination. She has bravely shared her story to help support others facing similar battles. Laura wouldn’t be where she is today without the outstanding care from the Cancer Ward at Glan Clwyd Hospital, alongside the emotional support, counselling, and comfort provided by Maggie’s North Wales, based at the hospital. Their support has meant the world to Laura and her family during the hardest moments.
At Barking Mad Dog Services, we are incredibly proud to support the vital work these teams do — not just for Laura, but for so many others.
