We fund research into type 1 diabetes to find a cure for type 1 diabetes

Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Team Cara-Stephic-Angus-Johnny is a crazy collective of friends, many of whom are doing their first long distance night bike ride, the London Nightrider all over this amazing city as part of JDRF's 2015 Challenge Events.

While the capital sleeps, thousands of cyclists will be making their way past over fifty of London’s most famous landmarks. And we will be with them!

Our team consists of: Paul Brabant, Alain Courtines, Dylan Dartnell-Steinberg, Sacha Manson-Smith, Andrew Purvis, Sheldon Steed, Beatrice Vermeir, Raphael Vermeir and myself, Bruce Steinberg.

We are doing this ride because we are on a crusade to cure Type 1 diabetes--and we have a very personal reason.

Ten years ago, Cara (16) and Stephane-Luic (12) were diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetics. Sheldon’s two sons both have Type 1: Johnny (5) has been Type1 for 6 years and his brother Angus (9) has just recently been diagnosed.  The rest of the gang on the ride are close friends who care profoundly about our kids and others who have diabetes--so much so that they have been training regularly and going to spend the night away from family and friends to do this arduous ride.

Our families have met many adults and children who are bravely dealing with their diabetes.  In our own homes, we have seen our own beloved children struggle with a disease that requires multiple daily injections, numerous finger pricks and a debilitating see saw of highs and lows.

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, life-threatening condition which has a life-long impact on those diagnosed with it.  JDRF is the world's leading funder of type 1 diabetes research and the only charity dedicated solely to finding the cure.  There has been good progress to date, but JDRF needs our help (read 'money') to continue the work.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us. Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

We desperately want to help our children and others around the globe that have Type 1 diabetes, so please sponsor us now!

Thank you very much.

Paul, Alain, Dylan, Sacha, Andrew, Sheldon, Beatrice, Raphael and Bruce
