We fund eye-care projects to eliminate avoidable blindness

Story

Hi Everyone, In beautiful Capetown, on a windy boat the idea was born that old talents should be unearthed. Shortly afterwards we entered into the Olympic Distance Trifactor Triathlon Relay competition in Singapore on 7th of September with Mark participating in the swim leg, Alvaro in the cycle leg and Petra doing the run. Training regimes were immediately – or not so immediately – put together and rigorously followed through. SCB triathlon suits were ordered and a team name had to be found. We drew inspiration from the fact that most people thought our idea was slightly crazy and used one letter of each of our initials to come up with: Team MAD. Of course we are not doing this simply for fun or to embarrass ourselves. We want to use this opportunity to draw attention to a very important cause: “Seeing is Believing” which the Bank has been supporting since 2003. This initiative supports projects to prevent and treat blindness and visual impairment, and creates opportunities for people who are permanently blind or visually impaired. 53 million people have been reached so far. Please give generously so that even more people around the world can receive treatment. Thank you for your generous support! Other donations like a rubber duck swimming ring for Mark, additional wheels for Alvaro or bouncy shoes for Petra are also more than welcome. Hope to see you at East Coast Park to cheer us on! Mark, Alvaro and Petra
