Tragically Paul took his own life in October 2014 leaving his family and friends devastated. His sister Jayne, a very good friend, is particularly traumatised by the loss of her brother and I can only imagine what his parents must be feeling. As someone who suffers with mental illness myself I felt that maybe if we can somehow get a positive from the situation it might go some small way towards helping Pauls family, and also help others suffering to get the support they so desperately need.
Having completed the 3 Peaks some years ago I asked Jayne if she would like to organise an event in Pauls memory and she jumped at the opportunity. We have chosen Sane.org as the charity to raise money and awareness for due to the black dog campaign that they run.
The full team is not yet sorted out, but it will consist of walkers, drivers and support to eable us to complete Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in just 24 hours.
As more details of members become available I will update this area.
In the meantime please give generously and stop the stigmatism attached to mental illness and if you have a loved one who is going through a hard time, give them a call or pay them a visit and let them know that you care.
