Myself and 9 other Tempest Baffoons are going to cycle from John O Groats to Land's End next August 2018 in 10 days covering an average of 100 miles a day. These idiots are
Stuart Dodds, Nicola Sexton, Adela Cox, Clive Richards, Matt Young, Derek Kinsella, William Edgar, Rob Lister, and Ian Hatch.
The idea came about as I am 50 next year and wanted to do something worthwhile, I'd also given up smoking and wanted to get fit, but more importantly I wanted to raise some money for the Alzheimer's Society as my mum has dementia.
This is an awful disease where you watch someone you love deteriorate, despite your best efforts, with no hope of any improvement.
My mum is 77, she has been married to my dad for 56 years and they love each other very much. Currently my mum knows who we all are and is active and not too bad. However, her deterioration is ongoing and it is awful to think that at some point in the not too distant future she will not know who we are. My dad is a saint and has immense patience and remains upbeat, but he knows that there is nothing he or anyone else can do to help my mum.
The Alzheimers Society are committed to finding a cure and are getting closer all the time to eradicating or at least slowing dementia down, sadly this will be too late to help my mum, but it might help future sufferers.
