Hi all,
As many of you are aware, 1.5 years ago I suffered a severe eye infection which resulted in the need for an emergency corneal graft. I now have an entirely new cornea which was donated by some kind person and I can see!!
When I was ill I promised myself that if all went well I would take part in a challenging event to raise money for some excellent causes related to sight. On the 12th September 2015 I will be setting off on a journey to cycle from John O'Groats, Scotland to Lands End, England. Nearly 1000 miles. I am doing this unsupported with panniers on my bike. I am also doing it the wrong way round so cycling IN to the prevailing wind!!!
This is a whopper of a challenge so I would really, really appreciated sponsorship for what is a really worthy cause. The charities I am raising for are:
- Moorfields Eye Charity http://www.moorfields.nhs.uk/content/moorfields-eye-charity-1. Who continue to conduct pinoeering research in to eye treatments that can be used worldwide.
- Orbis in Ethiopia http://gbr.orbis.org/country/Ethiopia. Who conduct ongoing sight saving eye care and medical support in Ethiopia, in particular in the ongoing battle against trachoma.
I am also raising awareness for the benefits of becoming an organ/tissue donor. You will change someone's life.
6 months ago I was incredibly unfit and didnt have a bike. Now I'm doing this... eeep.
