Fighting For Albert

Team photo

Thanks for visiting our team fundraising page, Fighting For Albert.

We have decided to support three charities, which are close to our hearts for different reasons explained below. You'll see our team fundraising target on the right and we have set a target for each individual charity too. Of course you are free to donate to whichever you wish. Your donations together can really help us to give thanks for the care and support Albert has received, fund new innovative research and help other children like Albert.

UPDATE

Albert is now 7.5yo and receives annual MRI scans at GOSH to ensure that his tumour isn't regrowing in his brain or appearing in his spine. We are so very fortunate to have Albert with us and we remind ourselves of this every day. As expected, Albert is experiencing some areas of learning difficulties due to the brain trauma he has suffered. However, with the support of GOSH and his school, he is progressing well. He continues to amaze us!

Fighting Ependymoma

At the tender age of 18m old, Albert was diagnosed with a stage 3 anaplastic ependymoma brain tumour in March 2016. Little is known about this particular type and Albert's in particular shows such rare characteristics that it was really hard to diagnose. Hundreds of children worldwide are affected by a brain tumour of this kind ever year. Fighting Ependymoma support research to improve outcomes for these children.

Great Ormond Street Charity (GOSH)

Albert has received the world's best care at this amazing hospital. After initial brain surgery, diagnosis, 4 months of chemotherapy every other week,  further brain surgery, lots of MRI scans, blood, hearing and kidney tests and not forgetting out referral for proton beam radiotherapy after learning Albert's chemo wasn't working; we cannot thank the wonderful oncology department enough. Every member of staff has been outstanding in their care and support and the pain we feel has been unbelievably eased knowing that Albert has been given the utmost thought and consideration throughout his journey so far.

Their charity help fund pioneering treatment, specialist medical equipment and accommodation for parents as well as much more.

The Indee Rose Trust (Winner of 2016 ITV Pride Of Britain Fundraiser)

Just a matter of weeks in to Albert's chemotherapy treatment we were referred to this charity and after telling them what his interests were we received two big 'Treasure boxes' of toys and treats for Albert. We were so very overwhelmed, as was Albert. These toys have been with us on many hospital trips and have helped pass the time during week stays.

The charity is Essex based and was set up by Indee Rose's parents following her sadly losing her battle with a brain tumour. Their aim is to support children diagnosed with brain and spinal tumours by gifting magical boxes filled with toys created especially for the child.
