Thanks for visiting the amazing #TeamSands-Aberdeen team's fundraising page raising money in support of the Baird Family Hospital Bereavement Suite.

The Baird Family Hospital is a planned new hospital in Aberdeen, for the Grampian area, which will include Maternity, Infertility, Neonatal, Breast Screening and Surgery.

Aberdeen Sands have been involved in ensuring that bereaved parents are cared for in the Rubislaw Ward in the current hospital. To support bereaved parents in future we have been involved in the planning and designing of a new bereavement suite, to make it as comfortable and appropriate as possible for those facing the loss of a baby.

The bereavement suite will be a separate part of the maternity ward, tucked away from the hustle and bustle, sound proofed, and with direct access to the car park. It will have two en suite rooms, a separate family room, and a multipurpose room also required for clinical reasons. Losses from 16 weeks gestation and onwards will be cared for in this new suite.

We have ensured that previously bereaved parents have had their voices heard in terms of the furnishing, equipment and decoration of the suite. They are the experts to ensure that future families suffering bereavement have the best possible environment to be supported through their grief.

The early pregnancy loss care will have a separate area, on a lower floor.  This will be easily accessible to the scanning facilities and include the same direct exit to the car park.

Baird Family Hospital and the bereavement suite will be complete in 2021 and as such will help care for bereaved parents for the future in the Grampian area. Parents from Moray, Shetland and Banff and Buchan are referred to and deliver in this hospital.

#TeamSands-Aberdeen are absolutely committed to raising the money needed for this really important project. Funds will be used to add the extras to the suite that will ensure it the best supportive environment it can be. This includes upgrading the decoration, furnishing, lighting and facilities available to the parents. Depending on funding we could also provide similar improvements to early pregnancy loss.

Given that the project is still at the planning stage, the target figure on the right is an approximate based on Sands experience of developing bereavement suites across the UK. Please check back to this page for updates on the specific improvements to be funded and refining of the target amount. Your donation, however, small will build towards making a brighter future for bereaved parents in the Grampian area.

All the funds raised will be designated for the purpose of Baird Family Hospital Bereavement Suite Project. Once this project is fully funded, any excess will be spent where the need is greatest in Sands in Scotland: helping Sands to continue to deliver its vital services to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, to improve the bereavement care received by parents and families, and to promote research to reduce the number of babies dying.
