The Day Of Hope

After suffering 4 miscarriages, the Miscarriage Association have provided a much needed life line for me and through the internet I have made friends with so many other parents that have been through the same horrible experience.  With the support and encouragement of these wonderful ladies and gents, I decided that I would like to organise something that would bring us all together to raise funds for the MA.

After the last miscarriage we endured in 2009, we discovered the reason why it was happening to us. The baby we lost was tested and we went on to have karyotyping. The fact that I know now that I am a carrier of a genetic condition called Patau's syndrome (Trisomy 13/14 Roberstonian Translocation) gave me the courage to go on to try for another baby and without that courage our son Cian (now 11 months) would not be here!  We called our baby 'Hope' as the fact we knew what we were dealing with gave us that hope that we would be able to go on to have another.

Unknown to me and somehow spookily, I discovered that the Day Of Hope falls on the 19th August. On the 26th August 2009, at a 9 week scan at our local hospital's EPAU department, we found out that our 'Hope' lost the fight for life when her heart stopped beating at 8 weeks.   (We had already had a 7 week scan which showed everything was ok and there was a hearbeat).

Because of this and the fact that I wanted to do this as a family not just my own family but with others and their families, I have arranged this walk and a follow up picnic.  I wish to have a tree dedicated to Hope and all the other angels lost to some very special people that will be joining us, that I wouldn't have met without her loss.
