Hi and thanks for dropping by to read our page and hopefully for deciding to support one or both of the charities that we are raising money for.
‘Let’s go back to Cyprus for a relaxing holiday this year’ he said, ’Nah’ I said, so I’m dragging my long-suffering husband, Nev, across Europe in a clapped out old banger, to raise money for Marie Curie and KidsAid. On the way to ‘Vegas’ in the south of Spain we will be driving over 3,000 miles, camping in as yet unknown locations and facing challenges set by the rally organisers on the way and doing all this in a car that cost less than £500?
Nev is a handy chap; he’s been using Whitworth spanners from the age of 3 or 4 years old. He’s normally to be found working on his rusty old wreck of a 1930’s Austin, so in theory, he should be the ideal partner to have with me on this trip should things go ‘pear shaped’.
There are two small hitches. Firstly, he’s not used to caressing metric nuts (or bolts) with a spanner. Secondly, he does suffer with a little OCD, needing to feel like he’s in control, in a predictable routine and everything is neat and tidy. This rally will put him way outside his comfort zone.
In light of this you might think he’d be against going on this venture; however, he is prepared to put himself through one of his worst nightmares to raise money for these charities. (Secretly I think he’s already pulling on a horse hair shirt!)
Luckily, I’m quite happy-go-lucky and will be ready and available to administer alcohol and take over the driving if it all gets too much. For me it’s more, time for some adventure before dementia!
