Christmas 2014 was one to forget for my daughter as she had just endured major reconstructive surgery in Newcastle RVI hospital. She was 7 years old and the surgery was carried out in early December, the recovery took months therefore her Christmas was ruined. It also affected the enjoyment her two younger brothers could have during this normally special time.
In early 2015 we got in touch with a charity called Starlight Childrens Foundation who make wishes come true for seriously and terminally ill children. My daughter wished to meet Santa and her wish was granted. Starlight flew us all to Lapland for a long weekend in December 2015. This amazing charity acknowledge that when a child is seriously or terminally ill it impacts on the whole family, especially the siblings, and that is why they look to provide the whole family with magical experiences. On the trip we met many other poorly children and their families witnessing the priceless difference this charity makes to peoples lives. We will never ever be able to thank Starlight enough for making our christmas memorable for all the right reasons and helping our daughter banish the bad memories. As a thank you we have arranged this charity challenge.
The challenge begins in Edinburgh on Friday 9th September leaving on bicycle, and covering approximately 100 miles to arrive in Carlisle. From Carlisle there will be stops at Preston and Shrewsbury before finishing the 400 mile cycling challenge in Cardiff on Monday 12th September. From Cardiff it will be a walk to London, approximately 150 miles over 4 days, with stops at Wotton-under-edge, Wantage and Windsor before arriving at Starlight HQ on Friday 16th September.
4 days cycling, 4 days walking, over 550 miles in total.
