Dick Turpin and Black Bess famously sped away from London along the Great North Road in the 18th Century.  To mark my 40th birthday, I will be travelling 40km on foot, along the same route but more sedately than Dick and his galloping horse.  Like Dick, I'll be encouraging people to part with their hard earned money.  The reason is simple...

Our son Thomas, 8, has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  It is now six years since he was first diagnosed with Duchenne, a devastating, muscle wasting condition which takes away the ability of children, mainly boys, to carry out the most simple of tasks that we all take for granted.      

There is no cure or treatment for Duchenne but in recent years there has been progress and clinical trials are now a reality.  The treatments which appear to be on the horizon are only possible because of the hard work and generosity of fundraisers and donors - and through the work of organisations like Action Duchenne.  Action Duchenne funds cutting edge research, campaigns for improved standards of care and runs a number of education and social projects for boys and young men living with Duchenne.
