Story

Exciting news from Holy Rood House – Thomas, our tortoise, is
taking up the 2.6 Challenge. He says he wants to encourage people at this difficult time and raise funds for the gardens, domestic animals and wildlife that are such an important part of his community of Holy Rood House. He knows how they help so many guests, of all ages, including children, with their sense of wellbeing. Understanding what it is like to be in lockdown he wants everyone to appreciate how our gardens and animals help people with their mental health. Over the next few weeks – as he is slow and steady – he is putting himself forward to be photographed on 26 occasions. He wants to show how he is an important part of the community, offering his support and his wisdom on staying well. As an encouragement to go through this challenge Thomas would like to be sponsored and is aiming to raise £2,600. He would like others to know the important work that Holy Rood House does and how their continuing help will be much needed through
and after the Coronavirus outbreak. If anyone would like to join him in a
challenge to raise money, then let Holy Rood House know.

Save the UK's CharitiesGeneral fundraising has been hit very hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled and many charities, particularly smaller ones, are struggling to maintain services because of this huge reduction in income. This impacts all sectors of society from children to the elderly as well as the vital work in areas such as palliative care, serious diseases, mental health, housing support, food supplies and countless others that charities support.
