Story
Major Tony Hayward Royal Engineers 1942 - 2012
In loving memory of Tony Hayward, a truly wonderful, caring, sharing and loving gentleman. One of life's finest who will be very sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The Royal Engineers was Dad's second family, of which he was a part for many many years from Sapper to Major, but even upon retirement the Engineers remained an important part of his family and therefore our own.
The following was written on the Facebook page for the Royal Engineers Association::
A great servant of the Corps, Tony had served in the Corps for some 36 years, from Sapper to Major. His last serving appointment was as QM of 28 Engineer Regiment in Hameln and on his retirement he took over the post of SSO Hameln Garrison.
He was a most caring and entirely modest officer who was highly respected by the serving and ex-serving Corps and their families. He never had a bad word for anyone and no-one had a bad word for him. He will be sorely missed.
RIP Tony. Once a Sapper always a Sapper.
Honi soit qui mal y pense!
