Fundraising for Verity The Polycystic Ovaries Self Help Group
Story
Hi my name is Karen Figgitt and i have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), a common condition affecting 1 in 10 women. I have chosen to fund-raise for Verity the national PCOS charity as they have given me a lot of support since my diagnosis 3 and a half years ago.
My kind hairdresser of 7 yrs Paula turned 60 this year, is celebrating 45 yrs of hairdressing & wanted to consolidate these milestones with a charity fundraiser. She will be cutting hair for 6 hrs solid with no breaks to support Verity as she knows this charity is close to my heart and understands what i experience living with PCOS.
PCOS affects my fertility and i had to have fertility treatment to conceive my daughter (now 18 months old) Other symptoms i experience include excess facial and body hair, acne and irregular periods (anything from 25-40 days when off contraception)The charity are run entirely by volunteers all of whom have full time jobs, families etc..
