Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. My names Michael and i am 23 from Tyldesley. I have decided that its about time that I did something to benifet other people's lives instead of my own for a change. When looking at things I could do to help raise money for cancer research, I was a bit unsure as to what I could actually do. I know people in the past have shaved there head, but those people actually had hair to cut. I could get my legs waxed but my eyes water just thinking about it. then one day I was working walking backwards and forwards when i realised walking is something most of us do everyday.

This is when I decided what it was I wanted to do, all I needed was a starting point and a destination. something challenging but within reach. The east lancs road runs from manchester to liverpool and is a road I have driven down many times before and it got me thinking, i wonder if anyone has walked it before. freinds and family think I am crazy for doing it, but not only will I be doing something for a life saving organisation (love you grandma x), but I will be pushing myself further than ever before,

and the reason why? well no matter how hard the journey is...no matter how bad the weather...no matter how much my feet hurt and no matter how much i want to give up and call it quits....you just got to keep going. no challenge can be greater than having to live with the pain of knowing you or someone you love has cancer. theres peope out there who are battling one of the biggest battles ever, the smallest tasks become more challenging than anything we can think of and freinds and families hearts left behind broken...so the least i can do for them is get a few blisters on my feet.

"From the very beginning we fight for life, pushing through the darkness towards the light and that first breath. We relied upon the strangers who were there, welcoming us with open arms; kind strangers without whom we would not have survived"

Along the way many like minded people have stood up to the challenge, and without them any target I set would probably be unreachable. Here is a bit about themselves and there stories;

      "My name is stephanie jones im 19 years old and have a 2 year old son. I want to take part in this sponsered walk as i know quite a few people who have sufferd with breast cancer, one of these people i am very close to and know very well, she got diagonsed with breast cancer last year in her right breast and then a few months later she got it in her left breast, i want to support anybody with breast cancer as i saw what she went through and it was painfull, I give my full support to anybody who is in the same position as she was"

      "Taking part in an event for charity is something that I had never seriously considered doing until a few weeks ago. It is through hearing the stories of others and being inspired by their efforts that I have decided to take part in this sponsored walk. This walk is going to help raise funds for cancer research, saving the lives of people who suffer from the illness. It seems important to me, as it is an illness that affects many people and their families… Many of the people we know and love. I want to help in winning the fight against cancer as it is a terrible thing to happen to a person and affects many of the people we know and love. I would like to ask for you to do your part, by supporting this cause and sponsoring our walk."

      "My name is Kerri Mcdowall, I am 19 years old and i have a 11 month old daughter. I want to take part in this sponsored walk as my Grandad died of lung cancer when i was only 3 years old, so unfortunatly, I didnt get to know him. I would like to prevent this from happening to other young children loosing loved ones at such a young age and to help all others suffering with cancer."

      "My name is Lindsey, im a 29 yr old mum of twin girls. 2 years ago my nanna was diagnosed with breast cancer, she had the lumpectomy to remove the lump and then started a course of radiotherapy which finished on xmas eve 2007. It all seemed good until a few months ago she went for some test results, unfortunately the cancer had returned. Nanna was given the mastectomy to reduce the risk of it coming back again, but as an extra precaution she is undergoing a course of chemotherapy. My girls have been ever so brave about nanna pat having this dreadful diesease and the nasty medicine thats made nanna's hair fall out but as my nanna said to me tonight, she's still the same person on the inside and for that im so proud of her for. Nanna i love you so very much and im proud to be your grand daughter. your are an insparation to so many people i know. i know you will not let this beat you and neither will i. I love you nan. xxx"

   "my name is rebecca, michael's sister. Im doing this walk for cancer research as my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. it was devastating to find out and it shook our family up to the core. my grandma is like my second mum and to help michael raise money for such a good cause is a brilliant idea! michael is my brother so he also knows how it felt to learn such bad news. my grandma was very lucky to have the support and treatment which helped her get better and the money raised for cancer research can help find new ways to treat cancer."
