Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. The 24 hours to make a wish upon 3 peaks challenge is raising money for Make-A-Wish foundation who made my cousins, Jack Shawyer's, wish come a reality whilst fighting a debilitating condition which he unfortunately succumb to two years ago!
I am Stuart the organiser of our challenge which has been made easier (slightly) by the support of my good mates Yanek and Dan. We attempt to complete the national 3 peaks challenge starting at Ben Nevis finishing at Snowdon via Scafell Pike. This is a challenge in itself however we will commit to complete this is under 24 hours this includes our travel time.
About Jack:
My cousin Jack was born in February 1993. His parents had all the hopes and dreams for him that everyone has for all their family. Before too long his parents realised that the child we loved was not the one we had expected. It seemed he needed to be 'fixed'.
In August 1997 Jack was diagnosed with Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease which meant that he had a rare genetic disorder that affected his central nervous system, this was a progressive disease meaning it would only get worse utlimately ending his life. Despite this disease Jack's character was emerging and he most certainly did not need fixing, ironically in many ways he was flawless, maybe not physically but spiritually.
In February 1998 Make-A-Wish granted Jack a wish to have breakfast with Mickey Mouse at Disneyland Paris. This was a tremendous wish not only for Jack but his family to create a wonderful memory for life. Make-A-Wish could see the amazing character Jack was that they used him for a publicity campaign in March 1998.
This challenge is in memory of Jack and the many other children in similar positions that deserve to be granted a wish of a lifetime.
About Make-A-Wish:
Make-A-Wish exists for one reason – to grant magical wishes to enrich the lives of children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.
Make-A-Wish go above and beyond to grant very special wishes to very special children; their dreams made a reality at a time when they need it most.
Because a child’s life shouldn’t be about illness, hospitals and diagnosis – it should be about wonder, joy and hope.
They have seen the effects a wish can have on a seriously ill child: from creating incredible memories, building confidence and bringing happiness, to providing respite from the daily struggles that come with a life-threatening condition.
Make-A-Wish know what wishes can give, and this is the driving force behind why they continue to do what they do.
