Story
I'M RUNNING MY FIRST EVER 10K !!! For Music Support. OK let's be honest, it's my first ever 1K or 2K or 3K let alone 10K, since I did "long distance running" at high school about a million years ago - (at my school it's what the kids who couldn't do anything else did.)
At the end of April we got an email at Music Support from Callum at Warner/Chappell telling us that they had wanted to enter a group into the "Chase The Sun" 10K run in Hyde Park on June 19th. At the same time my daughter Poppy was just about to run a 10K, while doing her dissertation at Uni. And I'd just stepped back from frontline operations at iCAAD - (the addictions and mental health conference I co-founded in 2016 pretty much at the same time as Music Support) so I knew I may have a bit more time on my hands to train.
Inspired by Poppy and the Warner/Chappell crew who'd taken this kind initiative (totally unsolicited may I add) I decided to throw my hat in the ring and join them. Least I could do. And they very kindly agreed that I could join them. As well as Poppy.
I'm a co-founder and Chair Of Trustees for Music Support. I cant believe how far it's come in just over 3 years. What started as a Facebook page, a few of us taking calls on our mobiles, and pitching up the first Safe Tent in the truck parking backstage at Download 2016, is now a fully fledged charity with an office and staff and everything - making a difference to people's lives, with fantastic support from within the industry.
There really is somewhere that people in any area of the UK music industry can turn to when they are experiencing addiction or mental health issues.
When I was one of those people in the nineties and 00'ies, there wasn't anywhere for me to turn, it was lonely and frightening and shameful.
The dream behind Music Support was that people experiencing these issues should never have to suffer alone again.
That's why I'm running this 10K, so the service can continue to grow.
Please help us to help them.
