Story
For a number of months, myself and some friends had been planning to cycle from London to Paris, to raise money for the excellent Rainbow Trust Africa. Fast-forward to August, and quarantine entanglements have now re-routed us to an epic multi-day self-supported ride from Hinckley in the Midlands to Barmouth on the Welsh coast, to Hunstanton in Norfolk (a kind of coast-to-coast on steroids): a distance of over 400 miles. Unfortunately, our challenge isn't the only thing that has been disrupted by the 2020 pandemic, see the following update (July) from RTA, and please consider donating:
Covid 19 has had a profound impact in Zambia, as a school we got shut down in early March and are still not fully back open. They are also facing food shortages and other impacts of restrictions on travel with big hits to tourism etc. They haven’t seen huge Covid deaths but the impact of lockdown measures has had a big impact on lots of areas in society with no SSP payments, furlough or social security benefits.
We’ve been able to have a massive impact despite our own financial issues, thanks to help from some new and one off donation sources we’ve done more food aid this year than ever before but there are always more people to help and needs to meet.
