Story
Bailey Suffers from Cerebral Palsy and has a lower limb spasticity.
He is a football mad 7 year old that wishes to run and play like any other child of his age.
He is cheeky and mischievous with a zest for life that is infectious to all those that come in contact with him.
His dream of being able to play for a football team is the driving force behind his family trying to raise the 25K to put him through an operation to enhance his quality of life.
Bailey requires an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR)
Selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) is a surgical procedure that can help children with severe muscle spasticity in their legs to improve their walking.
It's usually only recommended if scans have shown damage to the brain's white matter (periventricular leukomalacia) and other treatments for muscle stiffness have failed.
Bailey has already had botox injections and medication to relax his muscles and whilst initially they were positive their affects are now minimum.
The operation involves cutting some of the nerves in the lower spinal column, which can help relieve leg stiffness.
However, extensive physiotherapy lasting several months is needed after the operation, as Bailey will have to "relearn" how to control his leg muscles.
Like any other Grandparent or Family member the feeling of uselessness of not being able to solve the issue with hugs kisses or running it under the tap leaves us feeling empty. The only way we can solve this is by raising the money and providing and doing all we can to help our Grandson have a better quality of life.
