Running to Stop the Traffik is an international movement with the hope of creating a world free from modern-day slavery. It represents the largest collective movement that addresses slavery issues in Asia.
Since the first race in 2010, it has led the effort of combatting modern-day slavery through the people who can make the biggest difference: the young people. Since then, it has raised and donated HKD 2.5 million to combat slavery, which represents 100% of the funds donated to RTST by the public.
The first race started in 2010 in Hong Kong and due to immense popularity and demand, further expanded to Singapore, which hosted it's first 12 hour race in 2012.
This year, both Kuala Lumpur and Singapore will be hosting their first 24 hour race together with Hong Kong. The race will take place simultaneously in these cities from the 15th to 16th November. As much as 17 international and local schools are participating with a whooping number of over 150 student volunteers, who are running for the cause. By participating in this flagship event, students are being made more aware of this global issue and are actively engaged in trying to help combat it, as well as educate their peers.
Students form teams of 7-9 people from different schools and run for 24 hours around a 2.3km track in a relay format. These students can either be sponsored by the number of laps they run, or be given a single donation. RTST is a non-profit organization that allocates the funds it raises with purpose, diligence and accountability, on a project-oriented grant basis. Once costs have been covered, excess funds will be donated to beneficiary charities through our charity partner The Mekong Club.
Our team "Vicious and Delicious" consists of nine committed and enthusiastic girls who wish to spread awareness on the issue and do our part for the movement. We will do this by running to the best of our ability, raising as many funds as we can and educating our community
