Story

Jumpstart the Ashland JV community! These volunteers have dedicated a year of their lives to serve with JVC Northwest. As such, they have committed to living the values of Community, Simple Living, Social & Ecological Justice, and Spirituality. Your gift goes into a communal pool which helps support their formation and keep fees low for the nonprofits they serve. Help them reach their goal of receiving at least 9 donations of any amount to their page.

Meet the Ashland JVs:

Abby (she/her) is from Centennial, CO and will be serving as a Residential Life Specialist with the Heritage Living Center.

"Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best: "To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This it to have succeeded." I truly believe, in my heart that I was put on this earth to live for others. Like most, I have always struggled to know my true purpose in life. But one thing has always remained constant, the need to help and to be there for other people. I have been blessed with mentors and friends that have changed my life in ways they may never truly know, if I can make a difference in just one person's life, I will have done what I set out to do."

Cathy (she/her) is from Upper Darby, PA and will be serving as a Mission and Ministry Liaison with St. Labre Indian School.

"'We don't do good works to be saved, we do good works because we are saved.' When I was little, I struggled seeing the injustices in our society, people living on the streets, going hungry, treated with no dignity... Through my faith, I have come to know what pursuing justice means, that is, creating right relationships with God, myself, others, and our creation. I struggle knowing we can't solve it all in a second, but what gives me hope is knowing that, through service, we can become one step closer to bringing the kingdom of God into realization."

Olympia (she/her) is from Aurora, CO and will be serving as a Dorm Support with St. Labre Indian School.

"As a young child my mother would take me to homeless shelters to volunteer and was constantly pointing out where I was privileged in my life. She taught me that I am to use my privilege that I have to serve others that may be less privileged or in need of more help. Service allows me to be with others in a meaningful way by being with people, engaging in the stories and lives of those I am serving. I serve to be changed by others, meeting people where they are at not solving the problems of the world."

Naomi (she/her) is from Talbott, TN and will be serving as K-4 Academic Support with St. Labre Indian School.
