Story

Jumpstart the Portland JVs! These volunteers have dedicated a year of their lives to serve with JVC Northwest. As such, they have committed to living the four values of Community, Simple Living, Social & Ecological Justice, and Spirituality/Reflection. Your gift goes into a communal pool which helps support their formation and keep fees low for the nonprofits they serve. Help them reach their goal of receiving at least 42 donations of any amount to their page.

Dane (he/they) was born and raised in San Antonio, TX, and will be serving as Activities Coordinator for Do Good Multnomah.

"I serve because every community deserves equal opportunities, and I wish to help maximize those opportunities. I believe in a more equitable future for all people in this country."

Khari (he/him) is from Teaneck, NJ and will be serving as an Education and Employment Specialist with the Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC)/ Rosemary Anderson High School.

"I serve because I am always ready to lend a helping hand and to always be ready and serve those in need, it is a calling and passion of mine, and I am made for this."

Joe (he/him) is from Blue Point, NY and will be serving as an Academic Resource Specialist with De La Salle North Catholic High School.

"I serve because I've been inspired by my upbringing to be an informed and active citizen, to discover my rising place within the world, especially after experiencing an extensive influence by the values of an appreciated Jesuit undergraduate education."

Anna (she/her) is from Farmington, MO and will be serving as a Garden Assistant with the Serendipity Center.

"I serve because I want to share my abilities and passions with others, and continue to grow and deepen my knowledge and understanding of our world."

Monica (she/they) is from Hagerstown, MD and will be serving as a Clothing Ship Coordinator with Rose Haven.

"I serve because I want to help make a difference in people’s lives. Every person deserves a chance to have a life with rights, resources, dignity, and joy. Through my service, I can play a small part in making this a reality."

Marisa (she/her) is from Bronx, NY and will be serving as Graduate and After School Support with St. Andrew Nativity School.

"I serve because I think surrounding yourself with people who can offer a different perspective than your own is the best way to grow and learn. I serve because growing up in the Bronx has given me a unique perspective on the ways society can limit and harm those who do not fit into a norm and that perspective motivates me to act. I've chosen to be a JV, because I want to dedicate time for others in an environment that will also nurture the time I can dedicate to myself to do some soul-searching and real growth."

Noah (he/him) is from Bellingham, WA and will be serving as a Recreation Services Coordinator with Volunteers of America (VOA)-Oregon.

"I serve because I wish to form an understanding of and relationship with communities and individuals that want and need accompaniment. Through these experiences and relationships, I hope to garner further my understanding of issues of social justice and contribute to an equitable society in any avenues I can."

Haylee (she/her) is from Old Orchard Beach, ME and will be serving as an Immersions Coordinator with JOIN.

"I serve because I have been passionate about service for as long as I can remember. I don't know exactly what I want to do with my life yet, but I know I want to live a life in service of others. I see people struggling, and I want to do something to help. I don't have money or resources to contribute, but I can give my time, so that is what I will do."

Julia (she/her) is from Hingham, MA and will be serving as a Social Services Coordinator with William Temple House.

"I serve because I learn so much from the people I serve and serve with. I find service fulfilling because it gives me a sense of purpose and peace. I chose to become a Jesuit Volunteer because I have heard that it is a transformational and foundational experience."

Oscar (he/him) is from Pittsburgh, PA and will be serving as a Youth Program Development Coordinator with Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC)/ Rosemary Anderson High School.

"I serve because it gives me the opportunity to positively influence the lives of others while creating meaningful lifelong relationships. I hope the lessons that I learn during my year of service can be useful as I try to navigate the world around me."

Andrew (he/him) is from Mason, MI and will be serving as a Youth Education Coordinator with Northwest Housing Alternatives.

"I serve because I want to make our world a more equitable place for all people. I want to restore dignity and hope to people who have none. And I want to do these things alongside a community of people who share my desire to work for peace, justice, and equity for all."

AnaMichele (she/her) is from Boca Raton, FJ and will be serving as the Digital Inclusion Outreach Coordinator with MetroEast Community Media.

"I serve because I believe that I am called to work where my greatest joy meets the world's greatest need. I hope to use my passion for filmmaking to enrich lives, empower diverse voices, and equip individuals with the tools to share their stories through digital media. Everyone has a story to tell and should have the resources and opportunities to do so."
Maggie (she/her) is from Elmhurst, IL and will be serving as a Vendor Program Coordinator with Street Roots.

"I serve because I want to deepen my commitment to justice in community with others."

Kathryn (she/her) is from Lewistown, MT and will be serving as an Outreach Specialist with Catholic Charities Oregon.

"I serve because of what I see and how it makes me feel; I serve to continue learning my capacities: to help, to heal, and to mitigate harm."
