Story

Thanks for your support with my London Marathon JustGiving challenge!
My page donations will be sent direct to the charity in a fast and secure way. Its efficient, saves time and cuts costs for the charity. Let's do this!

7am Saturday October 12th I am trying to push myself off the bedroom floor.

When I couldn’t get up I was thinking,  I’ve overdone my upper-body training in the gym last night! But I knew there was something more seriously wrong than overexertion so I shouted on my daughter Jade, who came to my aid and got me to hospital.  At the hospital I had an MRI scan which revealed a blood clot on the artery leading to the brain   ( Ischemic Stroke ). I was given the miracle clot buster drug Thrombolysis and within 30mins my facial droop had gone and so had the numbness in my left arm and leg.

I had a great team of doctors and therapists and  with my mindset I’ve worked at being taken to the toilet in a commode,  to furniture walking,  to walking 1 mile  then walk / jog and now I am in training for the London Marathon.  This will be my 18h London Marathon which I usually qualify for a Good For Age Entry which  I am going to TRY and get again this year – wish me luck !! I was in good shape, do not smoke and eat healthily but no matter how fit you are stroke can happen to anyone and getting it on time   can affect the recovery rate.  It is so important to act  FAST :- Face drooping ~  Arm weakness ~ Speech difficulty  ~ Time to call 999 .

I still have a  weakness in my left shoulder girdle but I am attending physiotherapy and working on strengthening it to help me swim again.
My voice was also affected and I struggled to speak loudly and clearly, I
have been attending a speech therapist which has helped immensely.

I have Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland to thank for their assistance
with my recovery who arranged for the Physio and Speech Therapist
sessions.  I am running the Londonc Marathon 2020 to raise funds to help them continue with their work ‘making sure  'NO LIFE HALF LIVED’.
