Story
I am running the London Marathon this year for Save the Children to give children the hope of lasting change.
When I heard about the work Save the Children does to protect and restore the mental health of children it made me more determined to raise as much as I could from doing the London Marathon. Having lost a dear friend to suicide, many of you will know how much I care that we all feel free to say when we aren’t feeling great and our mood is low. I know we need to start this from a very young age in order for it to become normal and prevent such tragedies.
I was really impressed to learn about the Child Friendly Safe Spaces which Save the Children organise in refugee camps and conflict zones around the world.. We tend to talk about ‘refugees’ or ‘traumatised children’ in plural. But the fact is, there’s an individual child behind every refugee and every trauma. Each with his or her own name, face, character, dreams, wishes, sorrow, memories and loved ones. The goal of the safe spaces that Save the Children is running is to bring back the individual child.. At Safe Spaces all around the world, children get the chance to be kids again
People think of Save the Children as being an overseas charity but in fact they have been helping across the UK for over 100 years. Recently they made a grant to a Baby Bank in Stowmarket to help new parents provide everything a baby needs.
Save the Children believes that every child deserves a future. In the UK and around the world, they give children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. They do whatever it takes for children – every day and in times of crisis – transforming their lives and the future we share.
The 80's night Disco was a brilliant success and I hope everyone had a great time. My next venture is a quiz night at the Fox and Hounds in Thurston. See photo for details. Love to see you there.
By supporting my fundraising, you are helping to give children a brighter future. Thank you!
