Story

Hello! Thank you for visiting my page. I have been given the honour of running London Marathon 2024 on behalf of Action for A-T, who are an incredible charity that provide support and fund high quality peer reviewed medical research focused on identifying a cure for Ataxia Telangiectasia (A-T) and A-T like disorders.

I am currently undertaking my PhD in the laboratory of Professor Grant Stewart, where we work on rare, cancer-causing human diseases associated with how are cells detect and repair damage to our DNA. One of these diseases is A-T. Action for A-T are currently funding research in our lab and have provided us with equipment. A particular favourite of mine is our fancy fluorescent microscope that I spend a lot of my time using (When I say a lot, I mean it...I see Michael Scope more than my boyfriend). The work we do in our lab is vital in the attempts to understand and discover a cure for A-T and A-T like disorders. Without your generosity, our work would not be possible as pretty much all of our research is charity funded. Not only this, but Action for A-T supports individuals and families affected by this devastating condition. The discoveries we make about rare diseases like A-T also help inform our wider understanding of a host of other diseases such as cancer, neurodegeneration, ageing, developmental disorders and immunodeficiencies (amongst other things!). So it really is important stuff!

I will soon be returning to Medical School and having spent years working on characterising a new rare disease (very similar to A-T), I wanted to do something which would serve as a thank you for the support Action for A-T has given to our lab. What better way to do that than the challenge of running London Marathon?

I know times are tough right now but if you are able to offer any donation in support of this challenge, myself, Action for A-T, those affected by A-T and all labs like ours who need money to fund their work would be HUGELY grateful!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! xxx

For more information on the condition, visit our About A-T page. Since 2012 we have invested more than £4,000,000 in 46 A-T related research projects which offer hope to the families living with this condition. This has only been possible thanks to your generous support for which we are truly grateful.
