50 Years of Growth
May 2023 the class of '73 will be celebrating 50 years since graduating from Lincoln University. 1969 was a time of confusion, turbulence, and uncertainty; but also, a time when we felt we could change the world! When we met in 1969, we were strangers. When we graduated in 1973, we were and continue to be family. We arrived as children and left prepared with the confidence and skills to be professional and successful adults making significant contributions to the world.
We all have memories of our time at Lincoln University.
Remember....
* Refusing to wear the traditional beanie during Freshmen week
* Cramming for an exam
* Spending time in the student union playing pinochle
* Going to Sissy's
* Basketball games in Grim Gym
* Sit-ins and protesting certain school policies and conditions
* Concerts with Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack, Mongo Santamaria, Chi-Lites...costing $20 at the most
* Boogieing to the sounds of our very own Burt & The Gang, Gil Scott-Heron (Spiderman), and Brian Jackson.
* Professors who cared and taught us the skills and knowledge to be successful
* Final exams cancelled and going home early due to Ku Klux Klan threats
* Lifelong and endearing friends
* Our cherished friends who are no longer with us
* The good times...the challenges
Through it all, Lincoln prepared us for the real world and helped us grow into promising adults. We would not be who we are or where we are in life without the benefit of the education and socialization we received at our dear Alma Mater. Our education at Lincoln helped many of us to pursue additional educational opportunities and advanced degrees. It is important to give back with our time, talent, and treasure. Let's be an example for others to follow by PAYING it forward to current and future students. NOW is the time to contribute. If Not Now, When? If Not YOU, Who?
Let's help Lincoln continue its legacy of an outstanding HBCU of higher learning. You can help by making a donation on this page with your debit or credit card or sending a check payable to: The Lincoln University -- Class of 1973. 1570 Baltimore Pike, Lincoln University, 19352.
