Story
The role of women in the workplace has come a long way since they exploded into the workforce during World War II, but there continue to be disparities between men and women; particularly when it comes to STEM careers. While women make up half the workforce in the Lehigh Valley, they fill less than a third of STEM jobs - particularly in the areas of manufacturing and engineering.
You can help us continue to move the needle on this trend by supporting scholarships for girls with an interest in STEM to participate in STEAM education programs and work toward a STEAM Career Ladder Certificate. (STEAM is STEM plus the Arts - an educational approach that incorporates design, creative thinking and problem solving into science, technology ,engineering, and math)
Donations to the Da Vinci Science Center WISE scholarship appeal will support scholarships for girls interested in pursuing a STEAM education. (STEAM - Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math)
$30 will fund participation in a Girl Scout program.
$85 will help a student spend a day in Science Camp.
$200 will enroll someone in the STEAM Girls Club.
We know through research that girls begin to lose interest in science and STEM careers in middle school. Your scholarship contribution will help nurture the talents and curiosity of girls interested in STEAM to keep them engaged.
Special thanks to Evonik for sponsoring the WISE Initiative at the Da Vinci Science Center.
