For almost 50 years, our mission has been to serve men with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our goal is to provide high quality and compassionate care. This client-centered mission has allowed Good Shepherd Manor to develop services to meet the needs of our clients regardless of their age-related demands.

As COVID-19 became an international pandemic, we took aggressive preventive actions to minimize the impact of the virus on the men and staff at Good Shepherd Manor. We continue to monitor developments and follow the directions of health experts and authorities. We have been truly blessed by the creativity and determination of the staff that come to work every day to take care of the residents.

The additional expenses that we have incurred due to fighting this virus have been worth every penny. However, these expenses were not budgeted and we have had to postpone one of our largest fundraisers and the future of all of our major fundraisers may be uncertain in the coming months. However, we have been given an amazing opportunity through the Coleman Foundation of a matching grant up to $25,000. EVERY DOLLAR donated up to $25,000 will be matched by the Coleman Foundation from now until June 1, 2020. You may donate on this site or send any offline donations to GSM, PO Box 260, Momence, IL 60954. Offline donations will be matched, included in the totals and reflected here on the site.

The responsibility of keeping the men safe, healthy and engaged is always a 24/7 job. In the face of a global health crisis the extent and expense of this effort has increased immeasurably. Our dedicated staff continues to come to work, follow all of the new and time consuming protocols to provide for the safety of the men. Despite the extra work and isolation, our staff continues to amaze us with their creativity and compassion, finding ways to keep the residents engaged, happy and connected to their loved ones.- Kristen S.

Our work is a team effort....... we have our triumphs: a resident tests negative for COVID-19; ideas that save time and preserves our precious PPE. The teamwork right now is inspiring. Our nurses and our DSP's are tough.....We turn treatment plans into action. We question when things don't make sense or aren't going to work. We find solutions that work for our residents. We stand between the patient and the enemy. We are the front line. - Melinda Cockrell, Director of Nursing

This is a wonderful home for men with developmental disabilities. Caring and awesome staff! My brother lived there for 25 years and was so well cared for and loved. It truly was his home and the staff his second family. With gratitude. - Margie M.
