Story
Montefiore's HealthySteps Program needs your help to provide emergency support to families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of the families that we serve in the Bronx were already vulnerable to poverty and unemployment, but with the pandemic, many previously stable families are struggling with job loss or have become ill, resulting in food instability and economic hardship all on top of trying to raise young children. With stresses mounting and a lack of resources, Montefiore's HealthySteps Program has answered the call.
HealthySteps is a stabilizing support system for families by providing Infant Survival Kits that include basic necessities such as: 12.5 oz of Enfamil formula, 1 pack of diapers, and 1 pack of wipes. Thus far, we have already distributed 3,044 kits (often multiple kits to the same families) but the need is still great.
HealthySteps distributes these kits directly to mothers who need them the most: COVID-19-positive mothers of newborns, as well as other extremely vulnerable families, served by Montefiore Health System in the Bronx. There are 21 different distribution locations between Montefiore, The Children's Hospital at Montefiore, and the Montefiore food pantry, ensuring we are meeting the need throughout the community.
We greatly appreciate your assistance during this time of extreme emergency. Every dollar of your donation goes towards the purchase of supplies to meet the basic needs of mothers and children as well as transportation costs, with each Infant Survival Kit costing $22.00.
