Your gift to the ABA Judicial Intern Opportunity Program (JIOP), the signature program of the ABA Section of Litigation for the past 20 years, helps underrepresented law students to obtain paid judicial internships that provide valuable experience and a community within the legal profession. JIOP is a catalyst for diverse young professionals, setting them on a career path armed with professional experience in the courts and valuable insight into our judicial system. These students go on to foster a judiciary that reflects the society it serves to ensure fairness and access to justice.
In 2020, 135 students from 63 law schools interned with 107 judges across the country. These students navigated the challenges of the pandemic and gained experience that will travel with them throughout their career.
Entering law school, I had no familiarity with the tradition of serving as a law clerk, let alone how I could become one myself. I lacked the necessary information, guidance and financial resources. But JIOP helped me jump those hurdles. Because of this support, and by placing me with a judge so committed to my development, I am where I am today.
